The artist

Born in Hong Kong, Andy Yeung is a young artist who has won numerous awards and whose artistic focus is mainly on architecture, landscapes, and travel photography. This photographer, whose motto is to always look up has tirelessly captured modern buildings and constructions since obtaining his first camera in 2005. He very quickly acquired solid foundations in photography technique, and from the megalopolis of Hong Kong where he lives, he travels all over the world, looking for inspiration. His work enjoys international recognition thanks to his nomination as the winner of the PX3 contest and the International Photo Awards (IPA) in 2015. He has exhibited in Hong Kong and Los Angeles. His images have also been mentioned in an array of media: Lonely Planet, Daily Mail, Business Insider, CNN, and The South China Morning Post.  ... See more See less

ANDY YEUNG

About the artwork

How does the artist express the monumentality of the architecture that surrounds him? Navigating through the streets of Hong Kong can be a difficult experience, particularly since the city is one of the most densely populated in the world. With around 7 million people living within 1 100 square kilometres, it is the city with the most skyscrapers over 150 metres high. Artist Andy Yeung thus uses various photographic techniques while also delivering highly personal testimonies that subvert all notions of traditional perspective. Whether looking up to take in the full expanse of these structures, or taking to the airways with a drone for his latest Walled City series, his optical illusions are striking. With their abstract quality, these photographs thus provide spectators with an impression of a graphic composition in which the lines and geometric shapes intersect in an arrangement oscillating between optical pleasure and visual reality. In 2017, this image won second place in the photography contest held by National Geographic to find the Travel Photographer of the Year.
