About the artwork

Peggy Mella floats, navigates, travels, and helps spectators explore a world made of Fragments, the title of her recent series of aerial photographs. Based on enlargement, colouration, and destructuring of images, her artistic technique gives rise to an abstract and stylised body of work. She immerses us in a new world, that of the terrace of the apartment in which she has lived for more than five years. Comprising four panels, Red Pool was taken in 2014 at the Mondrian South Beach Hotel in Miami. Located on the magnificent seafront of Biscayne Bay, the hotel was designed by Dutch architect Marcel Wanders. Its quirky and visionary stryle is a tribute to the castle in Sleeping Beauty. In this shot, people are sunbathing beside the hotel’s legendary pool. The style is somewhat reminiscent of Slim Aarons and his photographs of the American jet set of the 1950s to 1970s.
