About the artwork

After portraying cities such as Berlin or London, Matthias Haker travelled to New York where, armed with his digital reflex camera, he captured the inherent vibrations and energy of the metropolis. His photographs are taken from a distanciated and particularly elevated point of view, offering a vertiginous overview of the city and its massive infrastructure. This photograph highlights the centre of Manhattan and its huge skyscrapers using the coloured lights that compose them.

The artist

Matthias Haker was born 1984 in Potsdam, Germany. In 2008, he bought his first digital SLR camera and started to take photography serious pretty soon after. Matthias specializes in architectural, landscape and urban topics as well as the photography of decaying buildings. His images appeared in various magazines around the world and have been shown in various exhibitions in London, Berlin and Paris.  ... See more See less

“The wall belongs to the ‘retards’, ‘inept’, ‘rebels’, ‘simpletons’, to all those with a big heart. It is the blackboard of the school of life,” says French-Hungarian artist Brassaï in his famous back Graffiti. A veritable ode to urban art, Brassaï’s reflection was to mark the a...
