The artist

Creativity can be found by preserving your inner child. Born in 1973 in Mexico, Mexican photographer Felix Hernandez Dreamphography has never really stopped playing. From his studio in Cancun, he creates highly sophisticated compositions based on small models that he makes himself. Combining talent with precision, this multi-faceted artist presents objects using simple artifices such as flour, icing sugar and cigarette smoke to plunge us into the depths of his imagination. This personal technique that subverts the most evolved of special effects has enabled him to hold conferences and workshops internationally, notably in Cali, Copenhagen, New York, and London. Felix Hernandez Dreamphography collaborates today with a number of prestigious magazines (El Pais, Bored Panda, The Daily Mail and Digital Camera). He also distinguished himself at the Festival Internactional de la Imagen in 2013, at the One Eyeland Photography Award in 2015, and will represent his country at the World Photographic Cup in 2017 in Japan.  ... About the artwork

While all of today's special effects seem to be designed digitally, Felix Hernandez Dreamphography bucks the trend in the creative world by using just a handful of objects to produce his fantastical stagings. The artist affirms that his photography is not "what really exists, but rather it depicts what exists within," in his wildest dreams, which he manifests with the help of everyday products: sifted flour to imitate snow or cigarette smoke covering his models to achieve fog effects. The effects of scale and perspective obtained through the use of a macro lens as well as with retouching software heighten the illusion for the viewer and immerse us in a zany, poetic and mysterious world, inspired by the films of American director Wes Anderson.
