About the artwork

Italy is one of the leading European tourist destinations. Famous for the beauty of its coastline, mountains, architecture, food, and for its painters, it offers incomparable cultural wealth. The many architectural treasures of his country form the main source of inspiration of Massimo Siragusa's work. He likes to reveal certain ancient or contemporary sites, famous or more intimate places, such as gardens and monuments. Captured in Turin, the image Teatro Regio (Theatre Royal) stems from the "Teatro d'Italia" series and portrays one of the most prestigious scenes from Italian opera. Destroyed during a fire that caused considerable damage in 1936, it was reconstructed in the same position on Castello Square. Despite its different design, it is harmoniously installed within the architectural context of the former square. The overexposed colours, work on white tones, and the frontality of the framing enabled the photographer to achieve pastel tones, and a muted and almost unreal atmosphere.
