Damien Dufresne captures the intimacy of his subjects to be able to paint and work on their bodies. Unlike canvas, the skin sweats, breathes and resists, the result is fascinatingly beautiful and the feeling of fragility that his models give off is disturbingly human.
The image is developed through layers of makeup, thicknesses of material, one color calling for another, one line giving rise to another. It is both a work of strength and delicacy, of power and gentleness, of simplicity and sophistication, but above all it is extremely poetic.
