MORE INFORMATION ABOUT DELIVERY

The artist

Founded in 2015, L'Observatoire is a collective of photographers from different backgrounds who have been practising photography for a decade or so. Using all of the techniques of contemporary photography, they present conceptual images that are always characterised by a certain dreamlike quality. With their multiple facets and mutual influences, contemplation seems to be the watchword of the collective and enables the spectator to discover and explore the poetry of the world. Beyond an aesthetic, the photographers share a point of view, a sensitivity that they each reveal in their own way, through the prism of their photographic composition. L'Observatoire was only formed recently but shouldn't take long to make a name for itself, given the talent and creativity of its members.  ... See more See less

About the artwork

The first images by L'Observatoire collective were produced by the French photographer L?o Caillard. The artist has practised photography since he was 16 and graduated in 2008 from the prestigious ?cole des Gobelins in Paris. He then went on to assist many different photographers across the globe, particularly in New York. He belongs to the new generation of emerging photographers working on their art from a unique perspective. Far from snapping quick shots, his approach is meticulous and artistic. Through a combination of current techniques, he brings together various periods within a single image. From his photographs of female models, which rework the visual codes of Flemish painting, to abstract sea views, to disorganised portraits of wild animals, L?o Caillard approaches his work like a film director and composes surrealistic stagings that draw the eye and awaken our curiosity through incongruous associations.
