About the artwork

For the North Sea series (Wangerooge Island, Germany, 2009), Steffen went to a North Sea beach as the afternoon drew to a close. The last bathers had left, and the beach cabins lost in the immensity of the landscape appear inadequate to us, almost absurd. Isolated, lined up in a haphazard way or knocked over, they seem to remind us that after the departure of the holiday makers, nature pursues its own work.
