The artist

Mateo Wallpainter did not choose his pseudonym by chance, since it was the artworks he created in the streets and on walls that brought him fame. Born in 1985, he initially studied art to Masters level, before flying to Canada and Montreal and working there as a graphic designer. On a long trip to South America he created works from one encounter to the next. On his return, he decided to devote himself exclusively to his art and particularly to street art. No support or material is off-limits for his creations and he likes to make Jean-Luc Godard’s maxim his own: “ The main thing is not where you get things from, but where you take them to. ” Exhibited in many countries, he became very interested in craft and oriental cultures and hopes to deliver a message of friendship: “ Beyond our differences and our cultures, we are all human and every human being is sacred, we all have immense inner power, ” he explains. “ A mystical energy emanates from my works and it’s this sense of inner strength and membership of the human race that I try to convey. ”  ... About the artwork

"The main thing is not where you get things from, but where you take them to." Mateo Wallpainter has taken this quote from Jean-Luc Godard as his motto. Taught by "the school of life" and street art, he spray-paints female figures over oriental rugs whose designs remain visible. Through these artworks, the artist wishes to express a "mystical energy, a sense of inner strength and membership of the human race" and pay tribute to women, who are historically associated with carpet weaving.
