About the artwork

Nicolas Jacquet also went to Mong Kok, one of the most densely populated suburbs of Hong Kong. 130 000 inhabitants per km2 reportedly live there. Its name in Chinese means "crammed and flourishing area" which corresponds perfectly to the image reflected in this photograph of Temple Street, with its night market. From the top of the many overpasses linking buildings together, the artist photographed the hustle and bustle of the intersections, avenues and market stalls that are preparing to open for the night. While the artist also bears witness to a certain loss of individuality " lost in the fluctuating mass of the city " he nonetheless highlights its particularly animated overall atmosphere, embellished by the play of colourful reflections and lights.
