The artist

Born in the hectic city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Jefflin is a master of black-and-white photography with long exposure times. After university studies in business management at a British university in Malaysia, he studied photography for a year at the Adam Photography Academy under Adam Tan, the winner of the 2013 International National Geographic competition. Since his first productions in 2012, Jefflin has developed a personal corpus dedicated to landscapes devoid of any human presence. His minimalist artworks have been exhibited in the Ukraine and the United States. Since 2014, the photographer has won several awards at international photo contests, notably at the Prix de la Photographie de Paris (Px3), the Moscow International Foto Awards (MIFA), and the International Photography Awards (IPA).  ... About the artwork

Jefflin has developed a personal corpus dedicated to landscapes devoid of any human presence. Humans are nevertheless intimated in a phantom way, by the traces they leave on territories. The long nocturnal exposure times or shots in attenuated lighting heighten the contrasts of textures and materials, giving rise to a masterly and refined chiaroscuro rhetoric ? the signature of his minimalist work. Whether it be a natural or architectural form, one that is already rather dramatic, it is later pared down with its lines becoming free form. Description in Jefflin?s work is less important than suggestion: he wants the spectator to be able to dream before his images. He identifies with Alfred Stieglitz: ?An artist strives to express their inner world by using objects from the outside world as symbols. It?s not what you capture that counts, but the way you interpret it and that will make it shift from an instant snapshot to a work of art. ? Captured in June 2017 in Guilin, China, Crossing is a rare colour image by the photographer. It depicts a farmer and his buffalo walking around the Li River, in a region full of impressive mountain ranges.

PEDRO JARQUE KREBS

Ferocious beauties isolated from all context, as though they had been captured in their most secret intimacy, this is the remarkable artistic gesture of Peruvian photographer Pedro Jarque Krebs, restoring to the animals some of their stolen dignity. After studying philosophy at t...

THIBAUD POIRIER

Born to expatriate parents, Thibaud Poirier spent his childhood in many cities around the globe, but out of Houston, Montreal, Buenos Aires, and Tokyo, it was the latter that has influenced him the most: “I discovered architecture there, in particular by Tadao Ando, and it became...

ALFREDO SANCHEZ

Alfredo Sanchez was not predestined for photography. Born in Mexico in 1954, he studied law and took up a career in the private sector. “My free time was spent playing tennis, horse riding, and let’s not forget my favourite pastime: photography,” he says. Much later, towards the ...
