MORE INFORMATION ABOUT DELIVERY

The artist

Since 2000, Jules Valentin has been passionate about photography and strives to capture his maritime meanderings through his lens. He never thinks twice about sailing into the open sea to explore the calm and the stormy. In his personal projects, he orders and assembles photographs of his chosen locations, featuring a palette of rare and intense silver hues. The sight of them evokes a kind of fresh coastal breeze, the movement of the sea, or a shift and then freezing of time. With a deep admiration for the British photographer, Michael Kenna, Jules Valentin explores his fading and ethereal seascapes in a new way. Just like his mentor, and just as strikingly, he uses his lens to reveal the universal power of nature and the elements: stars in motion hanging over the calm and turbulent ocean, the wind brewing the clouds and hurtling the waves.  ... About the artwork

Jules Valentin?s sea photos could almost be confused with mountain photography. However, it is Poseidon who governs here and ? compresses, hollows, and sculpts the waves of the Ocean with his trident, ? says the photographer. The choice of black and white and the composition allow Jules Valentin to fix the movement and observe the moment at which ? the sea transforms itself into an etching ?. And when doubt is cast on the spectators? certainties.
