Passionate about the photographic medium since 2000, Jules Valentin strives to create images as he undertakes his marine explorations. The photographer does not hesitate to head offshore and play on stability/instability. Through his personal projects, he orders and assembles his chosen locations in shots using rare, dark, and silvery colours. The sight of them evokes a kind of fresh coastal breeze, the movement of the sea, or a shift or freezing of time. Professing a profound admiration for British photographer Michael Kenna, he explores a landscape in which the picturesque tends to be effaced. Like his mentor, he reveals through his lens the universal power of nature and the elements: the movements of the stars over a calm surface, or a tormented ocean, the power of the wind pushing the clouds or unleashing mighty waves.
