About the artwork

This night view was taken in New York's famed Times Square. This square, in the heart of Manhattan, was named after the former headquarters of The New York Times, established there in 1904. At the beginning of the 20th century, an enormous electrified sign already occupied the façade of one of the buildings, making it one of the brightest and most animated spots in the city. Times Square has maintained this effervescence into the next century. Today, the "Crossroads of the World", as it is sometimes called, sees hundreds of taxis pass at all hours of the day and night under dazzling neon signs. Jörg Dickmann is faithful to the night shots and extremely high definition digital photography that define his style. Taking urban illumination as his subject, he chooses an extreme colour saturation to go with the visual and (one would think) sonic saturation of his model.
