About the artwork

Born in Düsseldorf, Jörg Dickmann first became interested in the work of influential artists and particularly the German objectivist movement of Bernd et Hilla Becher, before affirming his own photographic style through urban landscapes. In this image, he paints a portrait of the Vatican, the smallest country in the world, where the Holy See and all of the institutions of the Roman Catholic Church are based. He reveals the Bramante staircase located in the Vatican Museum. Incorrectly attributed to Donato Bramante, it was created by Giuseppe Momo in 1932.
