About the artwork

This motif shows Snæfellsjökull, a 1446 m high stratovolcano at the western end of the Snæfellsnes peninsula in Iceland. It is considered one of the most famous mountains of the island. This is due in no small part to the French author Jules Verne, who in his novel Journey to the Center of the Earth provides an introduction to the underworld in the crater of Snæfellsjökull. In the course of the shooting for the film of the same name, filming was done at the volcano. The motif was shot in late summer, when the snow and ice cover was thinnest. The weather up there changes permanently and sometimes in just a few minutes. The view of the summit is not always so clear and hiking up there is an unforgettable experience but should never done without and experienced guide.
