The artist

Michel Temman has been a journalist and reporter for over twenty-five years. Passionate about Asia and Japan, he moved to Tokyo in the 90's from where he collaborated with French journals, magazines and later with the Capa agency. From 2002 to 2012, he was the Tokyo correspondent for the daily newspaper Libération, before moving to Shanghai where he created his own agency of editorial contents and came back to his passion for abstract artworks developed alongside of his writings. It was only few years ago that he decided to share his abstract works, on which he has been working on for years, with the public. Their colours have been exacerbated to the extreme ends of the spectrum, resulting in images on the border between photography and painting. Through these very pictural photos, Michel Temman, after more than twenty-five years covering the news, aspires to take a salutary step back: “I’d like to invite myself to take a break,” he says, “and by the same token, invite others to rediscover a very slow pace, reflecting the idea of the immanence and impermanence of all things.”  ... About the artwork

Alongside his career as a written journalist (for 10 years, he was Libération’s correspondent in Tokyo), Michel Temman has always taken photos. With this abstract series, he would like “to rediscover a slower pace at the time of ultra-fast social networks”. His photos inevitably recall Mark Rothko’s canvases, with the same care applied to the colours: “I feel a real desire for colour,” he says. “We don’t explore the power of colours enough, I think.”
