The artist

French photographer based in Paris, he was born in 1982. He attended a business school (option: entrepreneur) where he started his own electronic music label, Archibell Records. Musician in the band Teenage Bad Girl, he has produced two albums and performed in over 200 concerts internationally, between 2007 and 2011. His passion for music grew out of his training as a percussionist. He discovered photography through his grandfather, a very advanced amateur, who had his own darkroom at home. Second discovery in 2007, with the purchase of his first non-digital Canon AE-1. He recently took a postgraduate course at Les Gobelins in Paris to learn different photographic techniques.  ... “By restoring perspectives, I obtain a square with regular, perfectly straight lines, giving the image an almost abstract sensation.”

GUILLAUME DUTREIX

About the artwork

For Guillaume Dutreix, electronic music and photography are similar in their creative process. Whether it be existing sounds to be harmonised through a synthesiser or raw coverage to be assembled using retouching software, the result is the same and the artist enjoys experimenting with these elements using a computer, like a chemist in a lab. Through careful work and an unrivalled degree of precision, he composes perfect melodies and images. When taking photographs of urban landscapes for his Instagram account on a daily basis, Guillaume Dutreix already has an image in mind, inspired by an emblematic site or an architecturally interesting building. He then waits for the opportune moment to go there, when the lighting exposure is at its most flattering. He seems to be continually reinventing reality, providing intriguing points of view in his images. Palace Square depicts the Saint-Petersburg Palace. An epicentre of violence during the 1905 and 1917 revolutions, it is now the cultural hub of the city, alongside the prestigious Hermitage Museum. Designed by Carlo Rossi as a theatre, it offers a grandiose perspective with the Alexander Column at its centre.
