About the artwork

Sourcing his inspiration from the nonconformist portraiture of his mentor, photographer Helmut Newton, Vladislav Spivak also focuses on the female nude, to the point of dedicating his entire body of work to the subject, from 2009 onwards. A Russian-born artist, he lives in Simferopol in Crimea, a region whose geographic membership continues to be contested by Russia and the Ukraine. Fascinated by the possibilities of black-and-white treatment, Vladislav Spivak produces erotic portraits of young women who embody – each in their own way – a sense of female freedom, while disrupting the established codes.

The artist

Vladislav Spivak is an artist of Russian origins living in Simferopol in Crimea, a peninsula located on the shores of the Black Sea and whose geographic connection to the Ukraine or to Russia is politically disputed. An expert in erotic photography from this beginnings, the artistic work of Vladislav Spivak is mainly dedicated to the female nude. Graduating in 2008, he moved away from the graphic design that he was trained for, devoting his time instead to photography, with the aim of launching his professional career in this field. Fascinated by the infinite possibilities of black-and-white treatment, the photographer has produced stylised portraits of young, powerful and sexy women, seeking inspiration from the greats, in particular Australian photographer Helmut Newton. He has participated in a number of exhibitions, including the Yayunost Festival, held in spring 2016 in his hometown.  ... See more See less
