The artist

Jörg Dickmann was born in 1973 in Sauerland, Germany. He started taking photos as a child, his father always had his SLR camera with him, photography has therefore always been a part of his life. In the beginning he only took holiday snapshots, just for the fun of it, with no serious ambition. This changed when the possibilities of digital processing revolutionized photography. When he bought his first DSLR, he began to experiment. There was a huge improvement in the quality of his work and he began to take photography more and more seriously and professionally. After publishing his work on the web, he received a huge amount of positive feedback from professional photographers. His photos were published in several German magazines: Foto Praxis, Focus, ELLE City, Which motivated him to find his own photographic style. His work focuses mainly on urbanism, architecture and nightscapes. Jörg has always been self-taught and wants to show his own view of the world. He doesn't want to copy reality, he wants to create his own  ... See more See less

« Mes photographies montrent le monde à travers mes yeux. C’est mon point de vue personnel sur la beauté et la diversité des lieux que je visite lors de mes voyages. J'essaie de trouver un moyen artistique différent de représenter des lieux et des sites à la fois communs ou inconnus à travers le monde. »

About the artwork

When he started out in Dusseldorf, Jorg Dickmann was initially interested in the work of influential artists, particularly the German objectivist movement initiated by the photographer couple Bernd and Hilla Becher. Mainly focusing on urban photography, he travelled to Rome, the big, cosmopolitan city whose nearly 3 000-year-old art, architecture, and culture are world famous. The Italian capital has an incredible palette of colours that the photographer succeeds in capturing through the prism of his lens. The Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi) is the largest and most famous fountain in the city. In a baroque style, it was created between 1732 ad 1762. Its renown stems particularly from Frederico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) in which the steamy Anita Ekberg takes a bath in the fountain, in an evening gown, under the gaze of Marcello Mastroianni. The film won the Golden Palm at the 13th Cannes Film Festival as well as the Oscar for Best Costumes in 1962.
