About the artwork

Wonderful time capsules testifying to a parallel world perfect for enabling the mind to wander and ponder, Francis Meslet's melancholic images brave the passage of time, making way for silence after the memories left there by humanity. In these deserted places, no more than the rustling of the wind can be heard through a broken window or the sound of water dripping from a dilapidated ceiling. These silences nonetheless invite the spectator to slip into these well-guarded and mysterious places and attempt to revive forgotten lives. The image Darling, Go Close the Window was created in 2017 in an Italian villa. Like wrinkles on a face, the deterioration of this site in ruins and the vegetation that invades it, marks the passage of time, but also the perseverance of life. Nature seems to have reclaimed its stake, offering a second life and new perspectives to this architecture in decline. Hidden behind the lens, the artist wants to place the observer in a situation of total immersion, as though they were really there.
