Largely inspired by René Magritte's work "Ceci n'est pas une pipe", this series of photographs explores the concept of identity and our personal choices with a touch of surrealism. An assortment of inanimate objects, floating above outfits of varying styles, that represent our thoughts, dreams and desires or just everyday things.

Born in 1971, Miguel Vallinas trained at the School of Photography and Cinema (EFTI) in Madrid before launching his freelance career and undertaking art projects that enabled him to exhibit internationally. After Pieles and Segundas Pieles, the collection This Is Not is the latest chapter to complete his series on the deconstruction of the human body and identity. It is reminiscent of the surrealist world of Belgian painter René Magritte, which also played on the perception and expectations of the spectator by creating visual games and double meanings.
