About the artwork

The majestic black-and-white portraits by British photographer Lee Jeffries reveal the nobility of the homeless. Characterised by a sense of violence, they present the furrows of faces marked by life experiences. This humanist photographer’s interest in the homeless was sparked in 2008 when he photographed a young woman snuggled into her sleeping bag in London. This unusual encounter marked the start of his social and artistic approach that seeks to denounce universal injustice. From Paris to New York, Lee Jeffries sets out to meet those who, despite themselves, are leading lives outside of space and time.
