Sarel van Staden and Maryna Cotton form a duo of South African photographers. Together, they direct the famous photography school, Photowise, located in the suburbs of Pretoria, where they teach their students how “to create images instead of recording them”. Sarel has been a professional photographer for over two decades and has continually won honours throughout his career. His attraction to creative and innovative lighting techniques has enabled him to focus on automobile photography. The challenge to beautifully illuminate the reflective surfaces of vintage cars has become an obsession that he now shares with his partner Maryna Cotton. She specialises in still life, striving to reveal the hidden beauty of the forms, curves, and lines of her subjects. Together, they collaborate with some of the most famous brands in the automotive industry, such as Porsche, Volvo, Jaguar, McLaren, and Ferrari.
