MORE INFORMATION ABOUT DELIVERY

The artist

Sarel van Staden and Maryna Cotton form a duo of South African photographers. Together, they direct the famous photography school, Photowise, located in the suburbs of Pretoria, where they teach their students how “to create images instead of recording them”. Sarel has been a professional photographer for over two decades and has continually won honours throughout his career. His attraction to creative and innovative lighting techniques has enabled him to focus on automobile photography. The challenge to beautifully illuminate the reflective surfaces of vintage cars has become an obsession that he now shares with his partner Maryna Cotton. She specialises in still life, striving to reveal the hidden beauty of the forms, curves, and lines of her subjects. Together, they collaborate with some of the most famous brands in the automotive industry, such as Porsche, Volvo, Jaguar, McLaren, and Ferrari.  ... See more See less

About the artwork

Passionate about cars since their youth, Sarel van Staden and Maryna Cotton reveal the beauty of the lines, curves, and forms of vintage cars with great sensitivity. Their images are a way of paying tribute to the automobile creators who designed these masterpieces over the centuries. The ?Focused Diffused Lighting? (FLD) technique that the duo of artists has perfected over their many years of experience helps to illuminate the reflections and improves the colours to create unique car art. This technique was developed when the market of automotive photography was in decline owing to the increased use of computer-generated images and the considerable increase in the number of professional and commercial photographers. Taken in 2015 in Pretoria, South Africa, this photograph offers the spectator the pleasure of discovering the elegance of a Cadillac.
