About the artwork

It is through destruction that photographer Gary Cummins likes to create beauty. He has perfected a messy but highly stylised procedure. Ironic and unexpected, the method consists of filling up a balloon with different acrylic paints then popping it for the love of art. The Irish artist thus offers the public a series of jarring and hypnotic images. Now based in Toronto, he exclusively devotes his time to photography, sharing his enchanting vision of the world around us.

The artist

Beautiful, enchanting, and surprising. This is how Irish photographer Gary Cummins sees the world around us. It is also how he wishes to represent it through his images. Now based in Toronto, he has previously lived in four different countries and never misses the chance to travel. These experiences have shaped his style and fired his imagination. He specialises in urban landscape photography and, armed with his drone, photographs the wonders found in cities. The artist encourages spectators to take a step back and appreciate the beauty around them, the charm found in everyday life. But he hasn’t stopped there and has recently developed an interest in high-speed photography. Produced in the studio, this genre enables him to experiment with new, purely aesthetic means of expression. Colours blend with textures and movements sparked by the artist, to create original and energetic works.  ... See more See less
