About the artwork

Famous for his dazzling representations of historic edifices, Bernhard Hartmann also manages to captivate our gaze with these panoramas taken while wandering in the Alps. The series The Wanderer’s Journey from which these photographs were taken pay tribute to German painter Caspar David Friedrich and to the romantic and mystical atmospheres of his paintings. The photographer is currently pursuing his research in Ireland at Dark Hedges, a site with torturous trees, popularised by the television series Game of Thrones.

I love what is beautiful. The serenity of a beautiful garden and the grave of an architectural monument must provoke the same emotion for the viewer. They must be enchanted through their emotions.
