About the artwork

Gary Land?s needle-sharp instinct and incessant search for quality work have made him one of the most inspiring artists of his generation. With his dedicated focus on each creative work, his positive, energetic and dynamic approach has allowed him to create exceptional photographs. In addition to his advertising work, he enjoys doing personal projects like the one from which this photograph was taken. The Dream is part of the series Amelia, a sort of film storyboard whose zany, dreamlike influences refer to the artistic universe of the American filmmaker Wes Anderson. It particularly recalls the 2012 film Moonrise Kingdom. In this photograph, Gary Land depicts the dream of a young girl going by the sweet name of Amelia. Living in a small coastal city during the Second World War, she learns that the plane carrying her father has disappeared. Broken-hearted, she enlists her brothers to help to look for him. Together they build wings and take off on an epic adventure to find him.

The artist

Gary Land is an internationally-renowned advertising photographer and creative director who has worked with the majority of major international firms, having notably taken portraits of athletes for Nike, Reebok and Adidas and produced emblematic campaigns for Coca-Cola. Over the course of his prolific career he has created an unmatched portfolio of images that have made him into a legend of contemporary photography. He has earned awards several times from the IPA International Photography Awards in Los Angles. His fascination for images began in his early youth in Virginia Beach. Never without his camera, he skated and surfed and perfected his technique for capturing his rapid action shots. After moving to Vermont, he became one of the most respected photographers in the snowboarding industry. He left Reebok in 2006 and teamed up with colleagues John Kenney and Ed Varites as an independent commercial photographer. Today, Gary Land is known for his unique interpretive abilities and style, working simultaneously for sports magazines and highly stylised advertisements.  ... See more See less
