About the artwork

Since 2011, his start as a digital photographer, Julien Talbot has devoted his artistic practice to landscapes, particularly natural landscapes. This photograph was taken on a 2014 road trip through Scotland, specifically on the Isle of Skye, north of the Sea of the Hebrides. With its often dark and cloudy sky, the harsh aspect of its majestic reliefs and the legendary beauty of its volcanic plateaus, the panoramas offered by the isle are often considered the loveliest in Great Britain. Julien Talbot gives us a new vision of it, plumbing his emotional reaction to bring forth his images. He does not seek to transcribe the inherent reality of the scenes he photographs, but rather to capture them as he saw them. Giving a special attention to light, he obtains a high-contrast image, intensifying the aura of mystery that predominates in his iconography.
