The artist

Greek-born Marina Vernicos is inspired by the heavenly landscapes all around her everyday and pays homage to them through her photography. Born in Athens, she has deep admiration for her native country and notably for the many Greek islands that she captures through impressive aerial views. Her passion for photography was revealed after an initial academic cursus in 1994 at the Emerson College of Boston and continued in 1999 at Harvard University. Since 2001, she has exhibited her images internationally and collaborates with the brands Mercedes, Perrier, and Napapijri. Besides London, New York, and Monaco, her shots have also been presented at the Museum of Cycladic Art in Greece, the Louvre Museum in Paris, as well as the Hangaram Art Museum in Korea. Marina Vernicos won the Sandro Botticelli Prize at the Palazzo Giucciardi Bongianna in Florence and first prize from National Geographic for one of her photographs taken in Antarctica.  ... About the artwork

Mykonos, Sifnos, Parnassos, and Mirtos, all of these idyllic names reveal white, turquoise blue and crystalline settings under the lens of Marina Vernicos. Over the past 15 years, the photographer has continually roamed the world in search of maritime and mountainous panoramas worthy of the most beautiful travel books. She is interested in the dramatic landscapes and architectural details of the natural wilderness areas and luxury ski resorts that she discovers in Greece. With Summer Shapes, taken in July 2016, she explores the geography of the popular island of Mykonos in the Cyclades. With the aid of a drone, the photographer manages to fly over the swimming pool of a hotel as discreetly as possible and without disturbing the lone swimmer in its calm waters.
