About the artwork

Often referred as the heart of Kowloon, the Mong Kok district has the highest density of population in Hong Kong and also in the world... The name in Chinese means 'crowded corner' which is perfectly matching this place. Mong Kok is also characterized by a blending of old and new multi-story buildings, with shops and restaurants at street level and commercial or residential units above. Nicolas is shooting here one of the busiest road of this district at the moment of all lights turning to green for pedestrians.

The artist

Born in Paris in 1987, Nicolas Jacquet has been fascinated by visual art since its young age. Originally more interested in drawing and painting, his passion evolved to photography after his arrival in Hong Kong in 2009. He felt that the city's vibrancy was strong enough to be seen as a giant artwork. Through photography, Nicolas is trying is best to express his vision of this city, rich in colors and lights. He particularly loves the urban scenery that express how vivid and bustling the street life can be in Hong Kong.  ... See more See less

“The wall belongs to the ‘retards’, ‘inept’, ‘rebels’, ‘simpletons’, to all those with a big heart. It is the blackboard of the school of life,” says French-Hungarian artist Brassaï in his famous back Graffiti. A veritable ode to urban art, Brassaï’s reflection was to mark the a...
