About the artwork

A stone’s throw from Plebiscito Square, one of the symbols of the city of Naples, lies the San Carlo Theatre, a sanctuary of Italian opera. With its six floors of boxes arranged in a horseshoe shape, a vast royal box and a long orchestra pit of about thirty-five meters, this building responded to Charles de Bourbon’s desires for fame, in 1737. As grandiose as it is imposing, this project became a symbol of his power and a source of wonder for the spectators it hosts each year.
