About the artwork

“Art consists of playing with the boundaries of the conscious […] it is a window that leads to the borders of the mind, where the past and the future merge,” says Dawid Planeta. With Birds of Paradise, the Polish artist signs a series of dreamlike and optimistic photographs in contrast with the dark series that made his name. Created in 2018, this series explores various themes such as friendship, family, silence, and security.

The artist

Dawid Planeta grew up in Poland in an artistic family. His father was a photographer and his mother, an art teacher. He thus soon developed an artist’s eye and yet, it was industrial design that oriented his early studies. At the age of 20, his education and artistic appetite caught up with him. He allowed himself to be won over by his true passions – art, photography, psychology, mythology, symbolism, and the mysterious world of the subconscious. He uses various digital tools, including digital cameras and image-processing software, to create introspective, uncanny, and fascinating artworks. At the intersection between photography, collage, and painting, his artworks take root in reality to attain an intimate world made up of dreams and illusions. Through his work, Dawid Planeta creates symbols and metaphors in order to communicate with the spectator’s subconscious.   ... See more See less

CLAUDE DEGOUTTE

“The wall belongs to the ‘retards’, ‘inept’, ‘rebels’, ‘simpletons’, to all those with a big heart. It is the blackboard of the school of life,” says French-Hungarian artist Brassaï in his famous back Graffiti. A veritable ode to urban art, Brassaï’s reflection was to mark the a...
