About the artwork

Laden with meaning, Thomas Jerusalem's images combine romanticism and avant-gardism. Above all, they tell a story, all within a washed-out vintage decor. What is this woman's destination ? Clinging to the wheel in eveningwear, she seems to be fleeing. Where to ? What is she running from and what will she find when she gets there ? The possibilities are endless. Perhaps she is simply late to her dinner.

The artist

Thomas H.P. Jerusalem – MUTE is a German photographer. After living for several years in Frankfurt and London, he moved to the suburbs of Chicago in 2004 where he still lives today. Growing up in West Germany during the Cold War with his father’s oversized books from the New York Photo Academy had a considerable influence on his narrative style. It is most likely the many hours that he spent with his father, an amateur photographer, watching him develop his own images under a dim red light, that sparked his passion for imagery. Thomas H.P. Jerusalem – MUTE began his career in street photography and photojournalism, two very expressive methods that forged his sensitive approach. He now works in fashion and undertakes prestigious collaborations with international magazines: ESTETICA, VOGUE / Italian PhotoVogue, FHM, Dark Beauty, DODHO, and Kaltblut.  ... See more See less

CLAUDE DEGOUTTE

“The wall belongs to the ‘retards’, ‘inept’, ‘rebels’, ‘simpletons’, to all those with a big heart. It is the blackboard of the school of life,” says French-Hungarian artist Brassaï in his famous back Graffiti. A veritable ode to urban art, Brassaï’s reflection was to mark the a...
