The artist

Ilya Rashap was born in Russia in 1979. Beyond just a mimetic function, he tries to photograph something which does not exist. Aesthetics are important but it is not enough for the photograph to be beautiful. Whether a landscape or a portrait, a good photograph should be above all a metamorphosis of reality and appeal to the viewer’s imagination.  ... See more See less

About the artwork

In a figurative sense, the term ?tanagra? designates a woman who stands out because of her grace and finesse. A tanagra is also a terracotta statuette dating from Antiquity. The models in the ?Red story? series conjure up these sculptures of outstanding finesse. A dark silhouette stands out against a red carmine background. A woman dressed in a long, fitted dress and wearing a hat is striking a pose. The vertical format of the photograph lengthens the silhouette which seems all the more elegant and refined.
