The artist

Born in Philadelphia, Renée Jacobs is an eminent photographer of female nudes. Atypical is the adjective that admirably describes the career of the American artist, who was once a civil and constitutional rights lawyer in the United States, before becoming an erotic photographer in 2006. She fulfilled her childhood dream through this conversion and was swiftly rewarded, with the International Photography Prize (IPA) in 2008. While starting out as a photojournalist for The New York Times and Philadelphia Inquirer, her photographs entered the collections of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. Since then, Renée Jacobs has made women her subject of predilection. Several books pay tribute to her work and particularly the series Werkdruck in 2012 and Mes petites femmes de Paris in 2013. Her photographs have been published in numerous specialised magazines (Nude Magazine, Fine Art Photo, Focus, Photoicon) and belong to the Taschen anthology The Mammoth Book of New Erotic Photography.  ... About the artwork

Erotic art is surely the most generous of the visual arts, since it presents a panorama of private and intimate moments that are usually locked away between the walls of modesty. Renée Jacobs breaks this silence and has created black and white nude photographs of women for over a decade. Sensual, beautiful, and free, all the women who pose before the lens of the American photographer express a formal elegance. Dressed in light outfits or partially undressed, they adopt the audacious poses of true femmes fatales: at once powerful, seductive, and intimidating. With head high and chin raised, they exhibit themselves publicly while retaining a natural look. Dream is thus combined with ecstasy. Diabolical and at times shocking, the unbridled portraits of Renée Jacobs bewitch us and offer us a new and unique vision of the female body, freed of all constraints.
