MORE INFORMATION ABOUT DELIVERY

The artist

Justine Coquidé is a multidisciplinary artist. She also paints and draws, but her favourite discipline is collage. During her years studying graphic design in Lille, Justine Coquidé decided to create her own technique of digital collage: a unique method whereby she creates original, colourful, but also political artworks. When she is not remixing famous paintings that have marked the history of art, she explores various contemporary social issues, including fast fashion or the standardisation of beauty through digital media. For each of her creations, Justine Coquidé tracks down, cuts out, and enhances images from fashion magazines, newspapers, or image banks. Each detail must correspond to the original painting to create a heightened version of the original artwork.  ... See more See less

About the artwork

With the This is Art series, Justine Coquidé offers a fresh look at the greatest masterpieces of art history. With the collage Marble Femen, the French artist gives a proactive second life to one of the white marble statues of the Louvre. Solid as marble but also nonchalant, the twenty-first century woman asserts her freedom of expression, opinions, and personality. Between the mythological nymph and the modern woman, the work pays tribute to women and the feminist movement, Femen.
