Born in Frankfurt in 1955, Bernhard Hartmann began his artistic career at the age of 18 as a press photographer for a major German newspaper. Self-taught, he studied art and later became a landscape photographer. He owes his success to his dazzling representations of constructions and also questions himself, on his travels, about the meaning and heritage value attributed to old abandoned buildings, such as those in his admirable series on Havana.
