About the artwork

In his series “Food Waste”, produced in 2010, Gildas Paré highlights all of the ambiguity of food waste by capturing the image of destroyed foodstuffs using a photographic procedure with a strong advertising connotation. This combination of beauty and destruction contributes to a genuine sense of confusion and thus encourages us to think about our own mode of consumption. With around 100 kg of food wasted per person per year in developed countries, this series therefore questions an important environmental, financial and ethical scandal. Through his photographic acts, Gildas Paré plays with appearances and, in this case, with disintegrating food, which he seeks to magnify through a lighting and aesthetic with strong advertising connotations.
