About the artwork

Now considered one of the most influential fashion photographers of her generation, Angelika Buettner is famous for the sensuality emanating from her photographs, whose aestheticism and flair for detail are taken to the extreme. Between the arrangement of colours, the choice of filmic settings, and the expressive power of the characters she immortalises, Angelika Buettner signs a fashion photography that is truly one of a kind. Dating from 2011, Desperate Housewife refers to the eponymous series that was a social phenomenon. It told the story of the eventful daily lives of four women living on Wisteria Lane, in the chic suburb of Fairview in the US. This photograph seems to rework the codes of the American series. She stages a depressed young woman nibbling on a chocolate bar in a house near Paris.

The artist

Born in Germany, where she began a career as a professional photographer, Angelika Buettner later moved to Paris, before leaving for the face-paced city of New York where she is now based. The German artist produces images with widely varying styles, colours, and subjects, which all have in common a dramatic atmosphere worthy of a filmic world. Her fashion photographs frame a certain kind of femininity, an elegance and depth so sensitive that they constantly leave the viewer wanting more. Powerful and sensual, they have enabled Angelika Buettner to collaborate with the most prestigious international brands, notably Audi, Bacardi, L’Oréal, Maybelline, Swarovski and Wolford, to name but a few. The photographer’s creations are also published in the magazines Eyemazing, Glint, Madame, Palace Coste, and Vogue.  ... See more See less
