MORE INFORMATION ABOUT DELIVERY

The artist

Parisian Genaro Bardy is passionate about the photographs that document his travels and about complex urban architecture and atmospheres. After working for about a decade with major advertising agencies and for the Salon du Chocolat, among other trade fairs, he decided to learn photography when he tried his hand with a camera for the first time. At the age of 32, he thus discovered this new language of imagery, perspective, composition, and learned about the legends of photography. The starting point of this conversion was his desire to make a career out of photography while he was reporting in Mali, which became a wonderful journey of initiation. After teaching himself and learning from his experiences in the field, his images are now published in the international press (The Guardian, Le Monde, L'Obs, L'Express, Les Inrocks, Daily Mail) and have made their mark through some prestigious collaborations (Colette, Nouvelles Frontières, Volkswagen, Meetic, and Devialet, among many others).  ... About the artwork

At first glance, the principle seems simple: capture the monuments, emblematic squares, and other iconic neighbourhoods of major global metropolises without the slightest sign of human or automotive movement. However, the silent parenthesis that Genaro Bardy offers us through his architectural portraits is a big challenge. The magic of this roving art project stems from the fact that the shots have been taken at a particular time, when no one enters the photographer's field of action, despite the heavy concentration of cities as popular with tourists as New York and Rome. These rare hours are rigorously chosen by Genaro Bardy, who very often works during holidays, Thanksgiving evenings, or at Christmas, while families are getting together among themselves. Begun in 2014, Desert in the City is a brilliant series comprising around thirty images that reveal sites devoid of any human presence: abandoned sites that thus accentuate the nocturnal beauty of their architecture
