About the artwork

In the employ of Kodak, Peter Gales is among the photographers behind the famous series of images known under the name “Colorama”. Exhibited on the interior balcony of New York’s Grand Central Station from 1950 to 1990, the Colorama pictures marked the history of photography, becoming the largest photographs in the world. Taken between 1957 and 1966, the photos of this series taken by Peter Gales symbolise the patriotic discourse of postwar America.
