The artist

There was nothing to suggest that Manuelo Bececco would become a photographer. Born in Italy in 1982, he studied electronics before becoming a graphic designer in the advertising industry. In 2006, however, one of his friends, a photography enthusiast, introduced him to the world of photography and he was inspired to learn about the profession himself. He now specialises in nature photography. In 2009, his series of forest photos taken from the ground looking up at the trees brought his work to an international audience. His photographs are regularly published in the National Geographic and have been awarded at international competitions, such as the Hamdan International Photography Awards in 2017. Based in Umbria, Italy, he currently works as a freelancer, in particular for the agency Getty Images, for whom he carries out reports and landscape photography with a real focus on emotion: “My passion for nature and photography will push me beyond the boundaries of my mind until I'm exhausted from dreaming,” he says, “I'll try to give emotions as long as I have them.”  ... About the artwork

The first time Manuelo Bececco photographed a forest from the ground looking up, it happened almost by chance: “One day, I lay down and I looked up at the sky through the trees. If you have the opportunity, do it; you will be open-mouthed with surprise!” This is exactly what happens to the viewer confronted with the beauty of his trees whose trunks and branches create magnificent shapes stretching up to the sky. “I like this kind of photo,” he says, “because through them I can transmit my own emotions.”
