About the artwork

Each day, according to a strict protocol, Libérette Foubert creates a photograph and writes a new poem. This artistic and personal approach enables her to look at objects, humans, and colours with fresh eyes. Her camera thus becomes the mirror of her worldview. By combining her images with writing, she extracts herself from the constraints of daily life in order to better reinvent it. In her words, art is therefore ?an invitation to explore life, often through a filter of hope, sometimes a filter of magic, and always a filter of light.?<cr/><cr/>This image was taken in 2016 in Kyoto during the cherry blossom season. Drawing a parallel between the vitality of young women and power of spring, the artist associates the image with this poem: ?Anna, nothing is stopping us. All it would take is a well-honed thought for us, in an instant, to be teleported. Can?t you see them? They are there in droves, fully formed and ready to cherish us. They are our possibilities... All we have to do is choose.?

The artist

Born in France, it was through a theatre class that she was attending at the prestigious Cours Florent in Paris that Libérette Foubert entered artistic spheres, mainly theatre, then photography several years later. After performing in Insecure, a film presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014, she produced her first photographs in New York, then in Boston. A tireless globetrotter, she moved to China in 2014 and began an art project that earned her international recognition. A self-taught photographer and writer, she associated her images taken daily with poetry and wrote, each month, for a Chinese magazine. Libérette Foubert has exhibited in French galleries in Paris and Auray, but also in the cities of Suzhou and Shanghai in China. She also won several prizes at the Dulwich International Photography Contest.  ... See more See less
