Vincent Garnier

Intimately connected to New York City, Vincent Garnier has dedicated a new series to it, full of contrasts and reflections. With his trusty Leica M9 in hand, the artist once again travelled to the biggest city in the United States in order to capture its incessant energy, both by day and by night. His multiple shots establish a panorama of symbolic sites of the global metropolis, such as Times Square, the Hudson River, its numerous bridges and towering skyscrapers. The predominance of colour virtually became the theme of the series. Phosphorescent lights emanate from the city?s architecture and reflect on the water or the façades of buildings. Lit up in this way, New York seems almost unreal, but according to the photographer, never truly exotic: it offers many points of identification that guide the visitor, filled with wonder at such monumental sites.
