The artist

Fran Forman studies graphic design at the University of Boston. At the time, she already spent most of her time in the darkroom. Despite her love of photography, she initially worked as a graphic designer. Branding, print, book covers, web design… She illustrated all kinds of projects, thus learning the emotional power of images. In her spare time, between her career and her family, she continues to invest in personal art projects and is notably passionate about collages and photomontage. She combines her talents as an illustrator and photographer with her passion for surrealism, creating original and poetic artworks. At first, she exercised her passion through paste and scissors then, from 1991 with the advent of the digital age, using digital tools. Today, Fran Forman devotes herself entirely to her art and enjoys extraordinary international fame. Her artworks belong to the permanent collections of numerous museums in the United States, Norway, and Northern Ireland and also travel the world in touring exhibitions. Eminently poetic, her creations form a dreamlike world made of illusions and mystery. Her personal touch? A harmonious composition and an explosion of colours, light and shade. Every image is a journey. She captivates spectators and engages them in an original experience. Loaded with visual suggestions, the American artist’s photographs invite audiences to invent their own story by engaging their own memories.  ... See more See less

About the artwork

Like a souvenir from the future, Woman with Selfie blurs the boundaries between photography and Renaissance art. Fran Forman, an American artist renowned for her photomontages, manipulates our perception here, combing contemporary schemas with period decor. Besides composition and capture, she applies herself to reproducing the lighting and emotional resonance of the Renaissance masters through the post-production work undertaken on her photographs.

As Damien Dufresne says himself: "I let my hands do the talking". His approach is totally new in that it's at the crossroads of makeup, body art, artistic direction and photography. The resulting complexity, technicality and beauty are impressive. Damien Dufresne, a make-up arti...

ALFREDO SANCHEZ

Alfredo Sanchez was not predestined for photography. Born in Mexico in 1954, he studied law and took up a career in the private sector. “My free time was spent playing tennis, horse riding, and let’s not forget my favourite pastime: photography,” he says. Much later, towards the ...

PEDRO JARQUE KREBS

Ferocious beauties isolated from all context, as though they had been captured in their most secret intimacy, this is the remarkable artistic gesture of Peruvian photographer Pedro Jarque Krebs, restoring to the animals some of their stolen dignity. After studying philosophy at t...
