The artist

On the heels of this transatlantic experience and in a post-68 context, Gloagen questioned his role as photographer in society. About the artwork

From 1947 to his death in 2004, Ray Charles tirelessly continued to produce in the studio or on the stage. He was a singer, conductor and composer as well as a pianist. He played blues, jazz and other musical styles, but in particular he invented soul initiating today?s musical trends. Completely blind at 7 years old, this multidisciplinary artist learnt music in a specialized institution. He left at the age of 15, when he became a professional musician. He was the first black artist to be listened to by white people. He received, amongst many other awards, 12 Grammy Awards and the Legion of Honour, as well as being one of the first to enter the Rock?n?Roll Hall of Fame. In 1979, his song ?Georgia on my Mind? was designated the official anthem of the state of Georgia.
