About the artwork

Calling on the most renowned artists of its era, Condé Nast assembled a corpus of photographs that made fashion history. This one was created in May 1977 by Scottish photographer and portraitist Albert Watson. In 1976, he found his place within Vogue, who had succumbed to his images and made him their fetish photographer, with over 200 magazine covers to his name. Later came contracts with advertising campaigns for the houses of Gap, Levis Strauss & Co, or Chanel. In a characteristic style, he staged the icons of fashion, rock, and cinema, and notably owes his reputation to the portrait of Alfred Hitchcock holding a plucked goose in 1973, to a nude Kate Moss on a beach in Marrakech in 1997, to the poster of Quentin Tarantino’s film Kill Bill in 2003, or to the famous portrait of Steve Jobs for Fortune magazine in 2006. As Damien Dufresne says himself: "I let my hands do the talking". His approach is totally new in that it's at the crossroads of makeup, body art, artistic direction and photography. The resulting complexity, technicality and beauty are impressive. Damien Dufresne, a make-up arti...

Alfredo Sanchez was not predestined for photography. Born in Mexico in 1954, he studied law and took up a career in the private sector. “My free time was spent playing tennis, horse riding, and let’s not forget my favourite pastime: photography,” he says. Much later, towards the ...

Ferocious beauties isolated from all context, as though they had been captured in their most secret intimacy, this is the remarkable artistic gesture of Peruvian photographer Pedro Jarque Krebs, restoring to the animals some of their stolen dignity. After studying philosophy at t...
