Julia Wimmerlin
After fifteen years in international marketing, Julia Wimmerlin decided to devote herself to photography in 2014. Originally from Ukraine, she has lived in Kiev, Paris, and Tokyo, and now travels the world taking travel photos as a self-taught photographer. At the turn of the 2020s, the COVID-19 pandemic and then the war in Ukraine shook her worldview and artistic approach: “I wanted to focus my work on fine arts and contemporary multimedia art, which allowed me to better understand the evolution of the world and the role I had to play in it,” explains Julia Wimmerlin. Today, she plays with reality and does not hesitate to push the boundaries of abstraction. An artist in residence at the Calabrò Gallery in Zurich, Switzerland, she has been exhibiting her work around the world for the past ten years (Paris, Arles, Rotterdam, Tokyo, Toronto, etc.). Her photos have been published in the most prestigious magazines (New York Times, GEO, National Geographic, etc.) and have won numerous awards, such as the ProfiFoto magazine New Talent Award in Germany and the Encontros da Imagem festival in Portugal in 2025 alone.
