About the artwork

Classical dance inherited a form of French courtly dance that has been practised in Western Europe since the 17th century and forms an essential component of Ballet performances, drawing on a number of techniques and precise, graceful movements. Mark Olich succeeds in illustrating these movements through his photographs, which provide the means to discover the spirit of rigour and clarity, the concern for elegance and clarity that are essential to classical dance. On the stage or in the wings, he captures and immortalises the agile and delicate movements of dancers.

For me, ballet is movement and music, and if there is movement in the frame, if music is heard, it's a good shoot, it rarely happens.
